Constipation is the most confusing of the condition represented by unsatisfactory bowel clearance. Shodhna consists of following herbs;
- Citrulus colocynth(Kaudtumba):- Also called Bitter Apple. From the times immemorial Citrulus colocynth has been used in gastrointestinal disorders such as indigestion, constipation, dysentery, intestinal worms, oedema, diabetes, Hair growth, throat diseases, dropsy. It increases liver functioning and clear bowels. It pacifies Vata dosha to rectify constipation.
- Glycyrrhiza glabra(Mulethi):-Another herb used from centuries as a laxative. It gently cleanses colon relieves sensation of incomplete evacuation,flatulence and bloating. It is also got antiallergic , anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. It pacifies Pitta dosha and makes stool soft.
- Mentha arvenses (Pudina):-This herbs has also got a history of use in constipation, abdominal pain, analgesic, skin diseases and fever. It is one of the most pleasant smelling species of Mint. It is also popularly used in mouthwashes and cosmetics. It also alleviates symptoms nausea, indigestion ,gas and constipation. It controls kaph dosha or excess mucus and acts as mild antidepressant.
Dose:- 1-4 tablets once or twice a day after meals with warm water or as directed by the physician.
Indications; Constipation, Gastritis, Flatulence, Liver disease, Ascites and Fever, also helpful in Irritable bowel syndrome.
